Offering Description

This course explores the basic skills needed to employ remotely sensed imagery as a source of qualitative and quantitative information. A lab component is included.

Target Audience
Professionals and post-baccalaureates working in fields that use geospatial technologies and pursuing training opportunities or looking to advance or revamp their current career path, teachers pursuing continuing-education credits, and international students seeking an educational experience and certification from an American university.

Goals and Objectives
1. Introduce the basic methodological and technical aspects of remotely sensed images and their interpretation.
2. Teach how to interpret common land covers and uses and other landscape features using imagery.
3. Introduce the methods and software used in digital-image interpretation and develop associated technical skills.

Specific Learning Outcomes
By the completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the science behind remote sensing and the various components of acquiring imagery.
2. Apply the elements of image interpretation to classify various landscapes and phenomena.
3. Use software involved in the interpretation of digital images.
