Offering Description

This course covers a variety of topics that are related to lighting. There are numerous energy conservation options for improving lighting efficiency and efficacy. The types of lamps that will be discussed are incandescent, fluorescent, LED, induction, metal halide, mercury vapor, high-pressure sodium and low-pressure sodium. Some artifical lamps are more efficient, some last longer, while others do not always operate at peak performance in all applications and environmental conditions. Therefore, having an understanding of lamp performance will aid you in finding a suitable lighting source for an application. Understanding basic terminology and measurements used in lighting will aid you in selecting, and installing a lighting system that is efficient, as well as aesthetically pleasing.
